Welcome to Old Newton Bowls Club

We are a very friendly club, situated in the village of Old Newton, just 3 miles from the town of Stowmarket in Suffolk.

We play Federation Lawn Bowls. During 2026 we will play in the Stowmarket & District League on Monday evenings, Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday evenings; in the Area D league on Tuesday evenings; and in the Bury League on Thursday evenings. We also take part in knockout cup competitions within these leagues and the County, as well as our own Club knockout competitions. Also popular are friendly matches during the bowling season and social events during the winter.

We welcome new members, whether they are new to bowls or experienced players, and we accommodate all abilities and ages. We offer player memberships and social only memberships.

2026 Noticeboard

WORK PARTY THIS SATURDAY, 17 OCTOBER FROM 9am
Our most important job is to apply a second batch of nematodes to the green. We’re hoping they’ll keep the leatherjackets at bay and, in turn, prevent the rooks from causing further damage. The nematodes need to be applied in a liquid solution using watering cans, and we must use them by this weekend as they won’t survive longer than three days. Rain would actually suit the nematodes, even if it doesn’t suit us! If we have enough volunteers, we’ll also continue painting the fence. Many hands make light work, so if you can spare a morning, it would be great to see you on Saturday. If you have a watering can, please bring it along.

Tuesday, 20 October – next Committee Meeting, if you have anything that you wish to raise, please let me or any other committee member know.

Sunday, 8 November, 10am, Old Newton AGM. Any proposal needs a proposer and a seconder, and needs to be sent to Club Secretary, Paul Hayward by 18th October. The nomination sheet for club officers and committee members is now on the noticeboard in the changing room, so please feel free to add names to this.
